Bright and lively with upfront forest fruits and a pretty damn intense mid palate. This is an intriguing, multilayered wine with a soft chalky finish. Those terribly nice Swedish folk just loved this rich style. We know, we previously sold it to them! Something to cuddle up too with a marmalade sandwich in hand when those icy baltic winds are howling through the Ikea parking lot.
The Cabernet component benefited from exceptional hang time and hence flavor development. Harvesting later than we have ever done (in the second week of November) meant there were some super heavy morning dews and the grapes came in just a couple of points lower in sugar than expected. Treating it as a wine glass half full kind of situation, our Wile E Coyote winemaker, rather than buy a smaller glass, combined this Cab with some inky Petite Sirah that was just coming out of a cold soak a couple of points higher than expected. He certainly hit the mark regarding balance brightness and you benefit from that “oh so long” hangman time.
