96 2014 Brecon Estate Albariño

Central Coast, 13.5% 303 cs., $26

Although it isn’t uncommon to see some dry white wines scoring in the mid to high 80 range, it isn’t because I don’t think there can be greatness found in the most unexpected places. That is certainly true of this wine. The nose is supple pineapple, gravel, lemon oil, sweet orange, melon with wafts of gardenia and jasmine. The palate is solid brightly textured with honey, lemon, melon and white blossoms. Exceptionally balanced and focused. Excellent purity through the polished vibrant finish. It is pure pleasure. Stunning wine. Tasted twice. Drink 2015 – 2017.
